"Gubal's Tower"

One day, long ago, Gubal, a simple carpenter was sitting around wondering. He had never gotten a good grasp on the concept of Heaven and God and Stuff. Looking up in the sky, where most folks seemed to think everything spiritual came from, he decided to find out for himself. Gubal began building a tower to Heaven, or the stars, whichever came first. Quickly branded a nut, people watched from a distance as the tower grew and grew. In 10 years time, Gubal could see as far as Greece and Persia. In 20 years, he could make out the curve of the Earth.

There came a point where Gubal thought that his great feat might be rather pointless and he had many doubts. Looking around, the carpenter scratched his sunburned scalp and then shrugged. He figured he might as well keep building and did.

After a while, down on the ground, they hadn't seen Gubal in quite a while. Someone looked up, shielding their eyes from the sun. "Do you think he finally made it?" They asked.

"Wouldn't doubt it." Someone answered.
