"Bombs Away"

Back when I was a kid, in the 50s, my grandparents owned an old apartment building in
downtown San Diego. The tallest building was a bank, at about fifteen stories. Now you
can't even see it, because of the skyscrapers. I spent summer days there while my mom
worked crosstown.

One of my fondest memories was spending quality time on the roof. Morningglories grew
up the side of the building and I'd take the flowers and drop them over the side, watching
them twirl down like parachutes.

Of course now, you would never let a 7 year old kid up on the roof alone, because they'd
jump, fall, get pushed by drug dealers, shot by gangmembers, or kidnapped by a child molester.
I think my grandfather probably just told me to be careful and don't do anything stupid and I
obeyed him because it made sense.
